Surgiram para nos relembrar da loucura dos anos 60, o enigmatismo profético e alucinante dos Joy Division com sons psicadélicos do novo milénio. Estou a falar, é claro dos MGMT, vencedores do prémio CLICKER para o melhor álbum 2008.

Andrew VanWyngarden e Ben Goldwasser dão corpo aos MGMT.

O projecto começou a ganhar expressão em 2005, com o EP TIME TO PRETEND, conseguindo chamar atenção da editora Cantora Records mas, foi em 2006 que o produtor Steve Lilywhite, fascinado pela sonoridade e energia do duo nova-iorquino, propõe um contrato com a gigante Columbia Records da qual é executivo.

Com a possibilidade de dedicarem mais tempo à música, os MGMT começam a trabalhar as suas músicas com o produtor Dave Fridman, conhecido pelos seus trabalhos com Flaming Lips ou mesmo Mercury Red, ganhando então forma o álbum Oracular Spectacular.

A 22 de Janeiro de 2008, saiu o tão aguardado álbum (Oracular Spectacular) ganhando o respeito dos críticos e a admiração dos fans.

O ano está a chegar ao fim, e como tem sido hábito por esta altura as revistas e os sites da especialidade vão publicando a lista dos melhores álbuns do ano. Edi Winarni (vocals), Felix Römer (drums), Tamer Özgönenc, (programming,additional drums and moog) formam os MIT. Música difícil de sintetizar, na medida em que engloba um ruidoso pós-punk, electro-tinged, minimalista e futurista. Som que é simplesmente excelente. Confesso que a voz de Edi não me cativou mas a qualidade dos sons produzidos superam esta pequena falha remetendo a voz para segundo plano. (a menos que tu zie sprechen Deutsch). Acredito que a música dos MIT pode ir para além das letras e atravessar a barreira linguística.

Vencedor Do melhor Clip

A ele estão associadas imagens futuristas, de liberdade, sentimentos únicos, comoventes e emocionantes. A imaginação humana não tem limite e sempre procurou freneticamente a projecção do nosso futuro. Há uns anos atrás falávamos de cowboys, de romances vividos no deserto agora transformamos os cowboys em robots e o deserto em salas de montagem. Em comum encontramos o fascínio e o enigmatismo que sempre nos provocam e nos levam a entrar dentro da própria história. Chris Cunnighan* consegue emocionar-nos com uma simbiose perfeita entre dois corpos robóticos, com gestos tão humanos e tão perfeitos deixando-nos com uma questão. Será que estamos assim tão longe desse futuro robótico???!!!!

"Most video directors have one trick that they use all the time. Then there are people who build a whole world around them. Chris is like that. We have only seen the tip of the iceberg with Chris."

All is Full of Love is an elegant, moving description of two Björk robots in love. As they are pieced and wired into existence, they sing to each other and fall in love. The video reaches its harmonious climax as the robots join in embrace while still being detailed by the industrial machines beside them. Each robot was designed by Cunningham, faces reminiscent of Björk's own delicate features.

"When I first heard the track I wrote down the words 'sexual,' 'milk,' 'white porcelain,' 'surgery.' [The video]'s a combination of several fetishes: industrial robotics, female anatomy, and flourescent light in that order." (Dazed and Confused)

"I think I mentioned that I think it should be ... something that's white and frozen, and then it sort of melts, because of love, and making love."

The robots were built by Paul Catling, who also sculpted the masks for Windowlicker, and mentored Cunningham about model-making. He sculpted the full-sized robots in clay in two hours.

"Every single shot in the video has about four layers. The first element is the shot of the set and the robot prop doing nothing, which we'd film for about 21 seconds. We'd then remove the prop Björk robot and put (the real) Björk in with her face painted white and wearing a blue suit. Using a mix of the (master shot and a live feed of Björk in frame) on the video monitor, we'd then try to match up as much as possible. It was a pretty crude and fairly terrifying method of shooting the video. For the Avid editing, I basically had a series of stills of a robot on a set and some crude shots of Björk wearing a blue suit with her face painted white. There was a definite feeling of insecurity all the way until the first couple of shots were finished in post, when I could finally tell whether it was working or not." (American Cinematographer)

"[Then] I started ... having ideas for ways of making the video better... So we were kind of improvising stuff in post. Up until that point I had absolutely no faith whatsoever in computer graphics, and now I'm more of a convert, really."

And you kind of realize that your role is more to make sure that there is a connection between the tune and the video. Crystal CastlE nascem nos instrumentos de Ethan Kath e na voz frenética de Alice Glass. Muita electrónica e uma voz eufórica fazem a imagem desta banda Canadiana. Projecto nascido em 2003 por Ethan Kath ao qual se juntou em 2005 a voz inconfundível de Alice Glass para a gravação de 5 instrumentais.

O álbum de estreia de Crystal Castle é um álbum eufórico, alucinado, paranóico a não perder para quem gosta de boa música electrónica.

Portishead conquistam primeiro lugar na revista Uncut com o prémio de melhor Álbum 2008.

A lista dos 20 melhores álbuns 2008 foi anunciada pela revista Uncut onde voltam aparecer Tv on the radio em terceiro lugar com o álbum "Dear Science", Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds com "Dig!!! Lazarus, Dig!!", mas o destaque vai para o Third dos Portishead como já foi referido e para o álbum homólogo dos Vampire Weekend que se estreiam assim com um fantástico quinto lugar.

The Killers

Day and Age é o nome do mais recente trabalho do quarteto de Las Vegas, quatro anos depois de terem lançado o primeiro álbum Hot Fuss a banda regressa com um novo trabalho. Produzido por Stuart Price mais conhecido por Jaque Lu Cont, produtor que conta no seu currículo trabalhos como Jetsream dos New Order, Hung Up de Modonna entre outros.

Day and Age chega ao mercado hoje (24-11-08) e espera-se um álbum mais electrónico que os anteriores, influência do novo produtor Price. Em entrevista a revista portuguesa, Blitz, o baixista dos the killers confessou que este álbum tem alguns dos seus temas favoritos da banda, Mark Stoermer falou ainda do seu tema favorito “I can’t Stay” e da possibilidade de passarem pelos palcos portugueses.

Já lá vão dez anos desde que os The Strokes se juntaram pela primeira vez.

O primeiro álbum foi apresentado em 2001, Is This It foi um sucesso em todo o mundo conquistando publicações nas revistas mundiais da especialidade (Rolling Stone, NME, Time,...) e apelidados desde então como os "Salvadores do Rock".

Em Outubro de 2003, the Strokes lançam o segundo álbum, Room On Fire, mas os resultados não foram os mais esperados, mesmo assim o álbum conquistou ouro e foi capa da Rolling Stone Magazine pela primeira vez.

First Impression Of Earth chega ao mercado em Janeiro de 2006 e foi uma surpresa para todos aqueles que esperavam um terceiro álbum nas linhas dos anteriores, sendo a pior recepção comercial e critica de todos os três álbuns.

Actualmente The Strokes anunciaram que estão a planear iniciar os trabalhos em estúdio para elaborarem o sucessor de First Impression Of Earth.

Kings of leon, já ouviram falar?!!

Depois de algum tempo à espera do tão aguardado quarto álbum da banda norte-americana, eis que ele surge como que por magia.A banda formada pelos irmãos Followill e pelo seu primo Matthew Followill deixou todos de “boca aberta” com Três álbuns fenomenais.
Esta banda é considerada umas das grandes bandas Rock do séc. XXI, e não sou eu a dize-lo ou o “Zé povinho”!
Mas vamos começar por contar a história desta família de “rockers”. Em 2003, foi lançado o disco Youth and Young Manhood, alcançando sucesso em todo o mundo, principalmente na terra do rock, Inglaterra. O álbum foi eleito pela imprensa de sua majestade entre os 10 melhores álbuns de estreia dos últimos 10 anos deixando-me inclusive a mim estupefacto com a qualidade da música elaborada. Aqui começa a minha forte admiração pelos Kings of leon, fazendo deles uma das minhas bandas de eleição.
Com o lançamento do segundo álbum (Aha Shake Heartbreak), a banda consegue a admiração de grandes nomes da música como Bono Vox, que os convidou para abrirem os concertos da torné dos U2. Mas não fica por aqui! Também Pearl Jam e Bob Dylan convidaram a banda para abrir os respectivos concertos! Em 2007 é lançado o terceiro álbum e, se algumas dúvidas existiam em relação à qualidade da banda, estas foram ofuscadas com músicas como Knocked Up, Fans ou True Love Way.

FINALMENTE, SURGE O TÃO AGUARDADO QUARTO ÁLBUM, INTITULADO ONLY BY THE NIGHT! Para ser sincero, estava à espera de um pouco mais deste álbum, que na minha opinião não está tão acutilante como os anteriores. Contudo, não deixa de ser um grande álbum. O problema foi a minha enorme expectativa depois de um ano ansioso para que este momento chegasse.
